Our accommodation is ideally located as a base for a rock-climbing trip to the Lake District. The well-known climbing areas of Langdale, Coniston (Dow Crag) and the Eastern Crags area are all on our doorstep.

These areas offer many crags that dry quickly and have a short approach walk, such as White Ghyll or Raven Crag in Langdale and Castle Rock at Thirlmere. The rock-climbing area of Borrowdale offers many roadside crags such as Shepherd's Crag, Falcon Crag and the Watendlath crags including Recastle Crag.

Most of the famous mountain crags of the Lake District are also very accessible from our accommodation in Ambleside. Scafell Crag and the East Buttress of Scafell can be approached from Cockley Beck via the usual approach to Esk Buttress - this is the preferred approach of many local climbers offering only a slightly longer walk in terms of time than the walk from Wasdale Head.

Langdale also offers the superb high crags of Gimmer Crag, Pavey Ark and the Bowfell Crags, and Dow Crag is approached via Coniston. There are also less-frequented crags such as Scrubby Crag - this can be approached directly from our accommodation base although driving to Dunmail Raise will save a little time.

The Lake District offers rock-climbing of all grades, in a superb scenic setting. From excellent scrambles, via long mountain routes of "Difficult" or "Very Difficult" standard (such as Bowfell Buttress in Langdale or "C" Ordinary on Dow Crag) to a fantastic selection of "Very Severe" climbs (The Crack and "F" Route on Gimmer, Eliminate A on Dow Crag, Overhanging Bastion on Castle Rock ...) climbers operating in the middle grades are spoilt for choice.
